The sphere of economic development is witnessing enormous pressure to perform and deliver. The economic situation in Germany is entirely and directly influenced by the situation in the labor markets and by the state of public financial policy. Thus the central task of economic development both at the municipal and regional level as well as at the state and national level is to improve the situation on a sustained basis by ensuring existing jobs and creating new jobs.
However, the question of how best to tackle this issue has not yet been resolved. Due to important political, economic and technological changes, the field of economic development has undergone a fundamental change over the past decade. Perspectives have been deferred, tasks have changed and new methods, instruments and tools have been developed. For a variety of reasons, organizations promoting economic development have taken note of only a few of these challenges and utilized only a part of the methods and instruments available.
